16 Days of Activism – What Strategies Work?

Stopping Violence Against Women & Girls!

Based on statistics, violence against women and girls affects one in three women world-wide and is one of the most widespread abuses of human rights globally.

There has been enormous work by the civil society and women’s movements to put an end to gender-based violence. Laws have been made in most countries against domestic violence, sexual assault and other forms of violence. Internationally, there is the Covention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the 1993 UN Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Challenges remain however in implementing these laws, limiting women and girls’ access to safety and justice. When VIOLENCE does occur, it often goes unpunished or it’s seen as a woman’s issue not a humanity issue or the victim gets the blame or the tradition/culture permits it.

We believe there are strategies out there that work – if it works for one, it could work for the other. Ideas that can change the direction of the struggle to end gender-based violence globally.
